My feeling about 'Make Poverty History'

Threre was a march in Edinburgh on 2rd July, which is the biggest in Scotland.  There were 225000 people joining this demonstration, and they made this like a festival and annoucement, in terms of my opinion.

Actually, my feeling is that these people are so kind to concern people living in the other world, which is definitly different from theirs, but they probably cannot bear the possible difficult lives if they really have to do something: what I tried to indicate was that they may have to pay more taxes and more money on buying petrol, to reduce their welfare social serives and their subsidies on inefficient farming, and to limit the consumption of their luxurious production, for exampe, to refuse selling BMW and Mercede Benz to the officials and leaders in African countries.  For me, it is impossible that they would like to continue their comfortable life styles and, in the meanwhile, to help other people.  If they have some doubts about these sacrifices, they have no strong positions in their appeals.

That was the reason when I passed through the march, I suddenly felt like to cry.

By the way, I felt a little disappointed that I could not see any relating activities in Taiwan.  In newspapers in the UK on Sunday, I scanned through them and found they noticed every relating activity about supporting these pre G8 summit protestings, which were held in Canada, the US, the UK, Japan, South Africa and France.  I was looking forward to finding something about this in Taiwan, because I supposed that this must be the great opportunity to grab attention from the whole world.  Unfortunately, there were onthing; when I searched news on Taiwanese websites, I could not find anyone or any groups in Taiwan mentioning this.  What I could only find was the entertainment news about the concerts in London.

Since last Saturday, I have kept hearing sirens coming and going, because there have been continuing protesting in Edinburgh more or less.  For me, it is interesting to experience this.  I still hope these rich countries can hope the poor countries although I do not consider that they are ready to have some scarifices.

    Dear Nanwei

I found your articles regarding the demonstrations for the G8 summit! I completely agree with your opinion and I also sometimes feel the same thing whether people live in 'haves''s country can throw away their 'comfortable' life.

When I was young like teenager, I really wanted to live very simply; did not desire any rich life, and make small money and work for people in future. However, now I realise that my thought has been changed gradually. I need some money to return my spend on study in university and the graduate school, and I think if I would like to bring up my children in future, I need some money to educate them. This is real life...very difficult life.

Recently, I feel very uncomforatble that sometimes people in Japan criticised that developing countries create greenhouse gas or something poisonous in the stage of development of their industry activeties. Japan has a histry of poisoning sea and land before... It is very unfair to say such things to those countries.

As I mentioned, there are unfairs and difficulties in our world; however, we shoud not throw away any hope to make better world and leave it for next generation. I have great hope for young people and believe in education.

The first step of the action to change the unfair situation is people's awareness; therefore, the demonstrations and music lives are sometimes seemed to be just festivals or funs for 'haves', but I think it would affect people who never have any concerns on the issue through such events to begin to think the issue. Therefore, I would like to support the activities to create the 'triggers' among the people who need to change.
